While I was taking taxi back home one night, I heard on the radio that once again another famous brand has been tested with Melamine. (Cadbury. how sad) Yes, I understand that melamine has caused a lot of distress and harm to people around the world and especially in China, leading to more than 53,000 children ill and four dead. I mean even I sometimes fear and doubt the quality of Chinese products, however, I do think that the world should cut China some slack and give them another chance.
Okay. When I talk about products from Japan, what words will pop up in your mind? High quality? High tech? little would you know that back in World war 2 their products has a reputation of being very cheap but of very bad quality. Look how far they’ve come. It takes time for a developing country to transform into a developed country, especially a country that has been through so much turmoil. Some may wonder, how could one possibly be so immoral and do something like that knowing that it could cause potential harm to the public? This is actually a legacy of the Cultural Revolution. Conditions during that time was beyond our imagination, it was unbearable. People were literally starving to death, in such a hopeless situation they would use any mean possible to earn money and this legacy still remains in the minds of many Chinese.
Maybe it’s just me, but I do think the media has been magnifying the situation and making it sound more serious that it really is. I mean seriously, would you be eating MORE THAN 140 PIECES OF Lotte Cream Cheese Cake or 150 PIECES OF WHITE RABBIT CANDY in ONE DAY? Seriously? Then you've got problems or you actually DO love it so much. Personally, I think the media around the world is making this such a big fuss, the media is kind of biased (well, not ALL of them but a majority). What I'm guessing is the people in that country is fearing that China would be a growing threat, and trying to sabotage her image, making her sound like one who cuts corners to appear good for a while regardless of long-term consequences. Foreign medias sometimes search for any possible chances to make China look bad. Do you people still remember the Tibetan issue? Remember how they took pictures and photoshopped them, making it look like that tanks were going to run over the people? How they distorted facts? I remember hearing that one of the medias actually took a picture totally unrelated to the issue (I think it was a picture taken from a scene where chinese people were in uniform ACTING to be fighting) and posting it along with text about the Tibetan issue. And wasn't it a coincidence that the Tibetan issue was SO heated when it was DURING or BEFORE the 2008 olympics? Seriously, after the olympics, the issue seemed to have miraculously solved and disappeared? Or they're just not reporting on it.
I acknowledge that this Melamine issue is a very serious one, but I think that the world should give China some time to solve it, (China better put their best effort) and get past it. Give them some time to improve and another chance. I really want to believe that China can overcome these issues and step up as a country with a reputation that all products they make are reliable.

WAAA SO MANY WORDS!
OK, i finally finished reading it...
I agree with how people just think China is bad and all. China isn't the only one who caused all these problems, other countries too. China isn't the country that is poor, unhealthy place to live, and etc... Olympics was a success, people should change their view of China, don't go hating it. They should not only put the blame, they should go help and solve the problem.
I don't necessarily completely agree with you here. I know it may seem like everyone is "magnifying" the issue of melamine a little but the fact is that recently, various Chinese groups have used melamine in their products because it dilutes the milk and it's a disguise that their is actual protein in these products. I personally think that this is wrong, just because something is cheaper to use doesn't mean that you can harm the children of your nation. The young infants are developing kidney stones! This is a serious issue and i don't think that recent reports in anyway bash China. I know sometimes the media likes to make an issue seem a lot more huge than it actually is, it happens to every country around the world. If anything, the media likes to bash about the US more than any other country out there. They are simply reporting what is going on with the whole melamine issue, more and more Chinese foods products are being tested and found with melamine. China should most definitely get their act together because if they don't they'll only be hurting themselves.
